FAQ

Transition from Old to New Application

1. How can I save the GPX tracks recorded with the current app?

The GPX tracks are saved only within the app. To avoid losing them, you need to share them using one of the available options in the app (e.g., uploading them to the Tabacco community or sending them via email). Once exported, they can be imported into a compatible system, including the new app or a GPX track reader.

2. Will it be possible to access products purchased in the old app after the release of the new one?

Yes, for at least 6 months after the launch of the new application, access to purchased products will be guaranteed as long as the old app remains installed on the device. After that, access to the products will be possible until the user logs out. This is because the login service will be discontinued as it is no longer sustainable for the company. Additionally, the old app will no longer be available in the app stores and cannot be reinstalled in case of a device change.

3. Why is there a shift from a purchase model to a subscription model?

The shift to a subscription model resolves some limitations of the current system, including:

  • The inability to transfer a purchase between Android and Apple.
  • The inability to offer a product for free on one platform to users who have already purchased it on the other.
  • The lack of flexibility in personalized discounts.
  • The need for a complete overhaul of the system to make the service sustainable in the long term.

With the subscription model, users access the Tabacco servers directly, without intermediaries, ensuring greater flexibility and continuity of service.

4. What happens to products purchased with the old system?

The virtual products purchased remain the property of the user, but they require a compatible system to be used. The company is unable to maintain a free service for their use. Additionally, virtual products require updates to maintain their value: without updates, the maps can become obsolete. With the new subscription model, updates are included in the service. In the previous model, updates were free only for the first period, after which they would have become paid, and the cost of such updates would not have been competitive compared to the significantly lower cost of a subscription.

5. Why is it not possible to maintain the old system?

Maintaining the old system would compromise the company’s sustainability, putting at risk the continuity of the service and the availability of digital maps. The subscription model allows for a service that is updated, stable, and economically sustainable.

6. Could communication with users have been handled better?

Yes. The company acknowledges that clearer communication could have avoided misunderstandings. To improve this aspect, an email and app communication system has been implemented to keep users informed of future developments in a timely manner.

7. What is the company’s commitment for the future?

The company is committed to providing a high-quality digital product that upholds the tradition of Tabacco paper maps. The priority is to offer an efficient, up-to-date service that meets the needs of users.
